Frequently asked questions
What is Hostname Lookup used for?
Use it to see the A and AAAA records a name currently has. Private and local names are blocked.
How do I use the free online Hostname Lookup tool?
Fill in Hostname. This field is required. Click Run and copy the result under the form.
What can I paste or upload into Hostname Lookup?
Enter a hostname such as example.com, without a scheme or path. Lookups time out after about 3 seconds.
What output does Hostname Lookup give me?
One IP per line. Localhost, link-local, private ranges, and names like .local or .internal are refused.
Do you store the hostnames I look up?
The hostname is sent to this server so it can query DNS, then it is discarded. It is not written to the database. Private, localhost, and link-local addresses are refused. Do not look up names you need to keep off this site.
Why was a name on my LAN rejected?
The resolver blocks private, metadata, and local suffixes so this public site is not used to probe internal networks.
Inputs are processed in memory only and are not saved to disk or the database. Data exists only for the duration of your request.
